Fourth Annual Bet Lahem Live Festival Aims to Bring Community Together to Inspire Social ChangeStar Street, Bethlehem, West Bank, Palestine, 28 July 2016—Holy Land Trust, is hosting the fourth annual Bet Lahem Live Festival on historic Star Street in Bethlehem. The festival will run from August 4 to 7, 2016.
This year’s community festival theme is Yallah Makloobeh, Arabic for “Let’s go, upside down.” The concept for the theme is rooted in a call to take responsibility for the development of Star Street, for the strength of Bethlehem, and for the future of Palestine. Holy Land Trust is seeking to turn the discourse about the future of Star Street and Bethlehem upside down: Instead of talking about what is wrong, let each person talk about what he or she is going to do.
“Our vision for the festival is to bring the community together for a purpose, to inspire social change,” said Sami Awad, Founder and Director of Holy Land Trust. “This starts with Star Street, but it doesn’t end here.” To accomplish this vision, the Bet Lahem Live Festival will feature workshops on nonviolence and nonlinear thinking, panel discussions from community and government leaders, and film screenings from local filmmakers to stir thought and conversation. The festival will also welcome local and international artists who will showcase their music, theater, and visual art.
“The three ideas at the center of the Bet Lahem Live Festival are culture, faith, and justice,” said Lara Mitri, Bet Lahem Live Festival Manager and Operations and Administration Manager for Holy Land Trust. “These ideas are woven throughout the entire conference, celebrating art and culture, modeling interfaith discourse, and advocating for justice.”
